How to choose a shower seat or stool

The right shower seat depends on the space, the person and how they move. Here is what to measure and think about before you buy.

Measure the space first

Before anything else, measure the shower tray or bath floor. A seat needs to sit securely with room to move around it. A cramped fit makes a seat harder, not easier, to use.

Match the seat to how the person moves

  • A simple stool suits someone who mainly needs somewhere to sit.
  • A rotating seat helps if turning or getting seated is the hard part.
  • Check the maximum user weight and that the height can be set comfortably.
  • Look for non slip feet and a design made for regular wet use.

Frequently asked questions

A backrest adds support and reassurance for a longer shower. A plain stool is lighter and easier to move. Choose based on how much support the person wants.
