What actually matters
- The day written out in full, not shortened to three letters.
- The date in UK format, to avoid confusion.
- A large, high-contrast display readable from across the room.
- Simplicity, so the important information is not buried among extras.
- Clear placement, whether that is a wall or a bedside table.
Why simpler is usually better
It is tempting to buy the clock that does the most, but extra functions crowd the display and make the day and date harder to pick out, which defeats the purpose. If the goal is for someone to glance up and instantly know the day, a clock that shows just the day, date and time in large text will serve them better than a busier one.
Wall or table?
Place the clock where the person naturally looks, and where the light is good. A wall clock suits a living room or hallway that is passed often. A table or bedside version helps first thing in the morning, when the day and date are most easily lost. There is no single right answer, only the spot that gets seen most.
